History of the SBA
The Scarsdale Business Alliance (SBA) is a non-profit organization that was formed in 2018 to support and promote the local business community.
Scarsdale historically had an unengaged and chamber of commerce. The chamber of commerce became defunct in 2016. Due to a shifting landscape of big box stores, internet, and changes in buyer behavior, the Village had its largest number of vacancies in history. The nonprofit organization The Acceleration Project (TAP) conducted studies, surveying merchants and consumers, and proposed best practices. Stakeholders were brought together, including merchants, landowners, elected officials, Village staff, and consumers. Leadership groups were forged, marketing campaigns launched, and eventually, the Scarsdale Business Alliance (SBA) was formed in 2018.
Government Partnership
The SBA is an officially-sponsored organization of the Village of Scarsdale, which recognizes that SBA’s programs, activities, and events cultivate a vibrant and economically viable local business ecosystem delivering substantial community benefits that improve quality of life and serve as focal points for community gathering and social interaction.
The Village of Scarsdale and the SBA entered into a Memorandum of Understanding, solidifying their partnership to support their joint mission to assist local businesses and to infuse Scarsdale retail hubs with vibrancy.
In connection with this partnership, Village officials and administration, together with SBA leadership, created a task force, which has been instrumental in responding to and addressing critical Village issues. This work has led to new policies, making it easier for new businesses to open and for current businesses to operate with fewer restrictions.
