Doing good isn’t just about the warm and fuzzies—it’s a power move. Smart businesses recognize that aligning with meaningful causes strengthens their brand, attracts purpose-driven customers, and fosters workplace culture. More than that, it sets them apart as leaders in their industries. And here’s the kicker: everyone benefits when businesses and non-profits collaborate in meaningful ways.
From interior design to early childhood education to women’s mental health, these Scarsdale businesses are making a tangible difference in our community.
The Power of Design: Transforming Spaces and Lives
7B Design x Ronald McDonald House of Greater Hudson Valley
For Judith Heimowitz, founder of the award-winning residential interior design firm 7B Design—renowned for its modern luxury that enhances everyday living—philanthropy is woven into her business culture.
In 2018, her then-five-year-old daughter underwent emergency surgery at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. During that time, Judith saw firsthand how the Ronald McDonald House of Greater Hudson Valley, located across the street from the hospital, served as a sanctuary for families traveling long distances for care. Years later, she didn’t hesitate when the opportunity arose to tap into her design expertise and extensive industry network to give back.
Located in Valhalla, the House serves as a crucial lifeline for families in medical crisis, providing free rooms for those whose children are receiving care at the hospital. Families get emotional support in the form of a comfortable and safe home-away-from-home with hot meals, laundry, and programs for siblings and the whole family.
Recognizing the need for a serene and functional office for the growing staff, Judith leveraged her talent and connections to transform an underutilized exercise room into a refined, high-end office that blends beauty with purpose.
“The House staff do amazing work every day—and always with a smile,” Judith said at the ribbon-cutting. Now, her three daughters are eager to volunteer, continuing the family’s commitment to charitable work. Judith is proving that businesses can use their expertise to create lasting impact.
Supporting New Moms and Women-Owned Businesses
Community of Play x Moms for Moms
For Gabrielle Felman, M.S.Ed, LCSW, founder of Community of Play—Westchester’s premier playspace designed to enhance early childhood development—creating environments where children thrive and parents are supported is at the heart of her work.
Her passion for helping families became even more personal when her first daughter was born prematurely, deepening her understanding of the challenges new moms face. Wanting to give back in a meaningful way, she partnered with Moms for Moms, a non-profit providing critical postpartum and newborn essentials to single mothers in need.
Together, they launched a diaper drive, collecting supplies to ease the burden on struggling new moms. “Motherhood isn’t always easy, especially in the early days,” Gabrielle shared. “If we can help even a few moms feel supported, it’s worth it.”
Beyond non-profit partnerships, Gabrielle uplifts women-owned businesses by hosting workshops and classes led by female entrepreneurs in mindfulness, creativity, and health—creating an ecosystem of mutual support that strengthens the community.
Mental Health Support and Advocacy
The CounseLaur x Women’s Wellness
For Lauren Tetenbaum Dorman, LCSW, JD, PMH-C, founder of The CounseLaur—a private practice dedicated to supporting women through life’s transitions—advocating for and amplifying female voices is at the core of who she is. A licensed clinical social worker and Scarsdale mom of two, she specializes in guiding women in their 20s through 40s through professional and personal identity shifts, particularly in the perinatal and perimenopausal periods.
Beyond the therapy and coaching she provides, Lauren is deeply committed to giving back. She frequently collaborates with female entrepreneurs to host networking and educational events, donating proceeds to non-profits supporting women in need. This spring, she is partnering with Community of Play to host events benefiting Moms for Moms—where she serves on the board—as well as Alliance for Period Supplies.
Lauren’s upcoming book, Millennial Menopause: Preparing for Perimenopause, Menopause, and Life’s Next Period, expands her mission by providing a holistic approach to women’s health. Through partnerships with local fitness, nutrition, dermatology, and medical professionals, she ensures women receive the education and support they need at every stage of life.
In addition to her advocacy work, Lauren serves on the board of Postpartum Support International and volunteers as the Community Service Co-Chair at her children’s school, reinforcing her dedication to supporting women and families both personally and professionally.
The Bigger Picture: Why Businesses Should Give Back
These businesses prove that giving back is a mark of strong and caring leadership. By aligning with causes that reflect their values, they inspire others to take action.
But it doesn’t stop there—amplifying these partnerships through social media and press extends each brand’s reach and serves as great publicity for the non-profit, helping them even further. Showcasing these collaborations creates a ripple effect.
Whether you’re a business owner, an entrepreneur, or simply someone looking to make a difference, there are countless ways to use your skills and resources for good. Find a cause that resonates with you and take that first step—big or small.
When businesses and individuals step up, communities thrive.
